“Do you love scripting and shooting movies? Do you have a movie that has a spellbinding storyline but not quite sure how to market it? Well, you have probably heard about YouTube.com and their phenomenal success hosting virals on their web site. It started out very small, on a shoestring budget, and grew over just a few years into a business worth millions.

Shooting video for fun has been a commonplace global pastime for years. Even back in the 80s there was ‘Candid Camera’, and a host of video clip shows on TV. The clips shown on TV like UK’s ‘People do the Funniest things’ are no more than 1 minute in length. Soon, broadband speeds allowed for the hosting and transmission of these clips on the web. No advertising costs, just a web site with a video clip embedded.”

Massify, the online collaboration site for film makers, recently reached its goal of creating the first ever fan-created film with the completion of Perkin’s 14, a horror flick scheduled to premier January 9 – 15 during Horrorfest III.

Most exciting is the process; from selecting the story to post production and launch, the Massify community was involved in making decisions every step of the way.

Massify, a young startup out of New York, was conceived by Kenneth Woo and Brett Icahn [yes, the son of Carl Icahn] as a network for filmmakers to connect and collaborate.

Earlier this year, Icahn told the New York Times: “Online networks should apply a democratic process to the creation of content, not just the distribution of it.” Read rest of article here.
