Well, you have probably heard about YouTube.com and their phenomenal success hosting virals on their web site. It started out very small, on a shoestring budget, and grew over just a few years into a business worth millions.

Shooting video for fun has been a commonplace global pastime for years. Even back in the 80s there was ‘Candid Camera’, and a host of video clip shows on TV. The clips shown on TV like UK’s ‘People do the Funniest things’ are no more than 1 minute in length. Soon, broadband speeds allowed for the hosting and transmission of these clips on the web. No advertising costs, just a web site with a video clip embedded.”

On Oct. 2, Barcelona shingles Kotoc and Edda Design presented toon/Web series “The Extras” and “Sweesters,” respectively, at a vidgame/multiplatform confab organized by Catalan pubcaster TV3 during the Sitges Fantasy Film Festival, Europe’s biggest genre pic meet.

A day earlier, Lisbon-based BeActive’s Nuno Bernardo unveiled his latest Web series, gruesome chiller “Final Punishment,” at Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro Film Festival.

All are multiplatform skeins. All look set to turn a profit.”

“After more than a decade of hype about the Internet being the next great stage for mass entertainment, it remains dominated by amateurs with most Hollywood stars watching from the wings.

Even as talent agencies like William Morris and television networks such as NBC push for more celebrities on websites and better quality programs, many actors and producers balk at Internet projects, saying they have meager revenue potential compared with TV and movies.” Read rest of article.

“Canadian television director Casey Walker has dreamed for years of making a romantic comedy for the big screen, but the thought of pleading for government grants or going broke to make the movie wasn’t terribly appealing.

So Walker, 32, who directs the YTV kids’ reality show “Adrenaline Project,” has come up with an innovative way to raise funds for his movie – he’s selling future frames of the film on the Internet at his website, www.mymilliondollarmovie.com.

The Toronto-based Walker launched the site earlier this year hoping to raise $1 million to make “Free For All … But You!” by selling the frames for $10 a piece. In exchange for buying frames, investors get a credit in his movie, advertisement rights on his site and a piece of the profits if the film is a hit.” Read rest of article here.
