Filmmakers see 3-D as game-changing advance

“Three-D is a fad, a gimmick, a get-rich-quick scheme by studios looking to wring a few extra bucks out of viewers. Except when it isn’t.

Filmmakers as diverse as “Avatar’s” James Cameron and the directors of three lower-profile current releases see the various stereoscopic technologies as possibility-opening artistic tools as revolutionary to cinema as sound or color. But a closer look at box office tallies shows that as a moneymaker, 3-D is out of focus.”
