“People occasionally ask me what I think are the best movie marketing campaigns from the last few years are. The list varies a bit as this or that campaign falls out of top of mind but there are a few that are always there: Cloverfield, The Dark Knight and the last couple movies from Kevin Smith.

The reason those are the evergreens on the list is that they each bear the personal mark of the director. J.J. Abrams, Christopher Nolan and Smith each put their stamp on the campaigns for these movies, personal stamps that created a connection with the audience in a way that more corporately run marketing just can’t and doesn’t.”
