New Internet rental system helps films get seen and make money

“The landscape for film and television distribution and exhibition is changing so quickly that some industry people are reluctant to propose a new model, for fear of looking stupid a few months from now.

That wasn’t the case Friday at the Whistler Film Festival’s trade forum, where a panel on distribution and marketing came up with some solid ideas for getting content out to an audience.

Christian Gaines, director of festivals for IMDB’s Without a Box (a company that helps independent filmmakers work with festivals), is dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s for a new system that would not only help a film get seen, it could also make money for both the filmmaker and the distributor.”
